Gordon Gives

I have always found it important to get involved in the community. My father was a great example to me, which carried on into adulthood.  While I was in college and law school, I didn’t have the funds to give money to different organizations, but I did find that I could give myself to the community to help others. I found that giving of myself was just as important as having the means to give money.

While I was in college and law school, I would go to local homeless shelters to feed and interact with people who were less fortunate. I had the opportunity to go on mission trips in other states to fix up houses or build a new home for a family in need. I would also give gifts at Christmas time to children whose parent was incarcerated and many other programs that put a smile on the face of those that receive.  It was such a rewarding feeling to physically put myself in the community to help other people.

As I have aged, my family has grown, but no matter how busy times seem to be, I always make it a priority to do what I can to be a blessing to others. My father, Jerry McKernan, founded the firm over 20 years ago and since becoming the sole owner; I found it important that the law firm play a vital role in making a difference in the lives of the people of the greater Baton Rouge area. After all, that is what my business is all about, helping others who are in need.  Over the years there have been so many things that we have had the privilege to be involved with.  We have helped locally as well as nationally. https://www.getgordon.com/community/

A few years ago I started a few events of my own in order to give back through my law firm. A few of my focal points have been the 94 bicycle giveaway (for Christmas), car seat giveaway, and next August I will be starting a uniform giveaway. I find it so important that our children have what they need in order to live happy and healthy lives.

I have a roof over my head, I can put food on the table for my family, and I along with my family are very healthy, God has blessed me in so many ways that I wake up every day so thankful for all that He has bestowed upon me. Knowing what God has given to me over the years, gave me the desire to begin Gordon Gives as a way to thank Him and those that have made my firm what it is today.

Deuteronomy 16:17
“Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.”

Acts 20:35

“In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
