Your homestead exemption is protected in the current constitution. The repeal of this exemption in a constitutional convention would increase your property taxes.
When asked if he would protect your homestead exemption, Rispone wouldn’t answer and asked, “How am I going to do that”?
Additionally, the funding for all K-12 public schools is protected in the current Louisiana constitution. The K-12 funding includes operations, teachers’ and staff salaries, and retirement. When Bobby Jindal was drastically slashing higher education’s budgets, the constitution prevented him from doing the same with K-12.
Supplemental pay for police and law enforcement is also protected under the current constitution.
Governor John Bel Edwards has said there is no need for a constitutional convention where everything is on the table, and he would never support taking away your family’s homestead exemption. He would also fight to keep funding for K-12 and supplemental pay for police and law enforcement protected in the constitution.
We believe these protections are important to those we represent.
