Fatal Sulphur Truck Accident
Posted on Nov 28 , 2012
Louisiana State Police, Troop D, responded to a fatal truck accident Monday morning on I-10 west of Sulphur. One of the drivers involved in the crash has died from his injuries. According to reports, the accident involved two vehicles and two drivers. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1999 Jeep, driven by 52-year-old Varghese K. Paily of Port Arthur, Texas, was traveling east on Interstate 10 when Paily switched from the middle lane to the outside lane to pass an 18-wheeler. While passing the truck, Paily lost control of the Jeep and struck a truck that was parked on the shoulder. Both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital. Paily was pronounced dead at the hospital from his injuries. The second driver suffered moderate injuries. It is reported that both men were wearing a seat belt and impairment is not suspected at this time. While the accident remains under investigation, Louisiana State Police said it was raining at the time of the crash and excessive speed for the weather conditions is suspected to be a factor in the fatal accident. Troop D has investigated 26 fatal crashes so far in 2012, resulting in 31 fatalities. My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in this tragic accident.
