Community Involvement in Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Gonzales, Lafayette, Shreveport, Alexandria, Hammond and Lake Charles
Gordon Gives is a program that allows Gordon McKernan and Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys to give back to the community. God has bestowed numerous blessings on McKernan law firm and its staff. Gordon’s desire is to do his part in giving back to people that may have a need. The Gordon Gives program has had the privilege of donating/serving over 266 different organizations across the Baton Rouge, Livingston, Ascension, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Alexandria areas.
It is our sincere joy to see the effect that giving back has made. Gordon and the firm has been able to donate TV’s to area hospitals in a time of need, send a baseball team to their world series when their money was stolen, ministered and given gifts to families during Christmas and much more. At Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys, we believe it is our responsibility and our desire to be a blessing to the local Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, Gonzales, Lafayette, Shreveport, and Alexandria communities in any way we can.
Gordon Gives Annual Bike Giveaway
During the first 94 Bike Christmas Giveaway, a Livingston Parish family shared their story about their mother who was recently diagnosed with cancer and were so bombarded with medical bills, could not afford presents for their 6 children. Gordon Gives provided this family with gifts and bikes for their children, helping to make their Christmas a little merrier. Similarly, Gordon Gives was able to provide bikes for an Ascension Parish family whose father was in the hospital and their two boys were being raised by their elderly grandparents. When asked why he chose a bike giveaway for families, Gordon commented, “God has been generous and blessed me as well as my law firm, and I wanted to give back. I remember getting a red Schwinn bike as a young boy on Christmas morning, and I just want to make sure other children have this experience too.”

Raising awareness for families regarding safety issues is also a priority of Gordon Gives. A particular issue of concern was the alarming statistics of child deaths in car accidents. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, (NHTSA) it is reported that motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children ages 3-14. Research shows that when used correctly, child safety and booster seats are extremely effective and can reduce the risk of injury and death in crashes. This information combined with years of experience handling car accident cases prompted Gordon and Gordon Gives to give away 94 brand new car seats and boosters to local families. Because car seats can be expensive, all too often, families receive and reuse them, and unfortunately, these seats have an expiration date and are more likely to fail. New car seats are continually being updated with the latest safety features and are the best option to protect a family’s precious cargo.

Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys and its charity arm, Gordon Gives, are active in hosting community-based events to support the children, families and neighborhoods throughout the greater Baton Rouge area and surrounding regions. Giving back to families through an annual bike giveaway for Christmas and a car seat giveaway before the heavily- traveled Memorial Day are prime examples of the compassionate work Gordon Gives does for the families it serves. These events create opportunities for Gordon Gives to connect with local families and hear their stories to better serve them.
