On the Road to Redemption | Gordon McKernan | EBR Parish Prision Ministry
I recently had the privilege of leading the early morning sermon and service at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and it was uplifting. I have been attending services at EBRPP for a number of months now, and it was an honor for me to have the opportunity to lead the group in worship.
In order to prepare the prison’s inmates to re-enter society and break their addictive and destructive behavior, the Warden, Dennis Grimes, has established a faith-based program with hopes of reaching out to the inmates through prayer.
Warden Grimes and Chaplain Jackson have seen how rehabilitation has improved when the inmates are given a chance to re-build their lives with a stronger Christian faith base to grow upon.
For many of these men, it is actually their first time to hear and learn about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and it was apparent to me that many in attendance were desperate to experience Christ’s love and forgiveness as they have been disowned by their families and forsaken by their friends because of their past life styles.
I chose to discuss Genesis 39, which describes the imprisonment of Joseph, and how when he was in prison the LORD was with him and showed him kindness. While speaking before the group, I was filled with such exhilaration and was myself uplifted. It was a great experience.
