About Makiva N. Johnson
Born and raised in Thibodaux, Louisiana, Makiva Johnson is a proud graduate of Grambling State University and Tulane University School of Law.
Johnson began her legal career in the Shreveport-Bossier area with a primary focus on family law, medical malpractice and personal injury law. Johnson is also a licensed family law mediator.
Johnson has worked with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. During her time with the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services, she also maintained a private practice where her primary focus was family law.
In 2016, Johnson joined the Louisiana Department of Justice as an Assistant Attorney General. In her role as an Assistant Attorney General, Johnson practiced medical malpractice defense.
In 2020, Johnson transitioned from the public sector and is currently an attorney with Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys (GMIA). In her position with GMIA, she is devoted to assisting clients navigate through difficult times and challenges. She prides herself on being a compassionate and caring advocate for her clients in their time of need. In a client review, one of Johnson’s clients wrote, “Ms. Johnson is more than an injury attorney, she became a very caring, concerned person in my life.”
Education and breast cancer awareness are two causes that Johnson is passionate about. As breast cancer survivor, Johnson served as a past board member of Susan G. Komen. She speaks to women to educate them on the importance of early detection and screening. Johnson is also a current board member of the Southern University of Shreveport Foundation.
In her free time, Johnson enjoys traveling with her daughter, Alexis.
