I was saddened to see reports that the second missing worker from explosion on the Black Elk Energy platform had been found. The U.S. Coast Guard confirmed on Wednesday that the missing worker was found in the Gulf of Mexico approximately three miles from the shore.

Officials said the body of Jerome Malagapo was recovered at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 26. The body was then taken to Port Fourchon and sent to the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office for an autopsy and to confirm the identity.

After the explosion, which occurred on November 16, two workers went missing. The first crew member’s body was recovered within a day of the explosion, but the second worker remained missing.

I can’t imagine how hard this has been for Mr. Malagapo’s family. I pray that this will help bring some closure. I extend my thoughts and prayers to his family and friends during this very difficult time.
