William J. Mitchell, II (“Bill”) was born in Lafayette, LA on May 29, 1957. He is one of six(6) children and his parents’ only son. Bill graduated from St. Paul’s High School in Covington, LA in 1975. He graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA in 1979. His plan to attend law school was delayed several years while he taught 7th and 8th grade math at St. Paul’s. He graduated from LSU’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1985 and he has been a member of the Louisiana Bar Association since October of that year.
Bill has worked as a trial lawyer for over 30 years. He has personally handled 25 jury trials and 50 bench trials during that time. That trial experience has included all manner of personal injury claims, including premises liability, automobile liability, products liability, medical malpractice and property damage claims. He has made arguments before the Louisiana Supreme Court and multiple Courts of Appeal in Louisiana. His trial experience has been in Louisiana District Courts in 15 different Parishes and Federal District Court in New Orleans. Bill obtained a $1,096,000.00 jury verdict for a medical malpractice client in 2013.
Bill is married to Lisa J. Mitchell. Lisa was born in Marquette, MI and moved to Baton Rouge before she started high school. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and then earned a degree from LSU. She is a teacher’s assistant at Trinity Episcopal School in Baton Rouge. Lisa and Bill have been married since October 17, 1986, and they have three children, John, Maggie, and Adam. Bill loves to fish and hunt whenever he has the opportunity, and he enjoys being an LSU sports fan.
