Thanksgiving Eve, The Second Biggest Night of Drinking

Posted on Nov 21 , 2012

Black Friday may be the biggest shopping day of the year but “Black Wednesday” is the biggest drinking day of the year, second to New Years Eve. Thanksgiving Eve beats out the 4th of July, and St. Patrick ’s Day for the biggest drinking nights so it’s not surprising that you should be cautious when hitting the road.

Thanksgiving also marks the kick-off for law enforcement’s busiest time of the year: DWI season. It’s a perfect concoction of time when relatives are in town, college students are at home and there is no work on Thursday, making it the most wonderful time of the year for imbibing.

Here are some drunk driving accident statistics for Louisiana:

• 304 fatal accidents in Louisiana where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.08% or above
• 338 people were killed in Louisiana in accidents where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.08% or above
• 66 people were killed in Louisiana in accidents where at least one driver had a BAC between 0.01% and 0.07%
• 404 total deaths caused in Louisiana where at least one driver had a BAC of 0.01% or above

As a personal injury attorney, I see the devastation that a drunk driving accident can bring. Please be safe this Thanksgiving holiday and designate a driver.

Happy, Happy Thanksgiving, from my family to yours!

God Bless.
