New Orleans Police Respond to Multi-Car Accident, Leading to Significant Traffic Congestion
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) was notified of the crash shortly before 11:30 a.m., leading to over four hours of backed-up traffic on the West Bank Expressway. The congestion even extended as far as the Lafayette Street exit, causing drivers to seek alternate routes and resulting in significant delays on other Westbank routes, including the Huey P. Long Bridge.
Secondary Accident on Crescent City Connection Temporarily Slows Traffic after Initial Crash
Just as the wreckage was cleared and the eastbound side of the Crescent City Connection began to regain flow, another accident momentarily slowed traffic on the westbound side. Startling photos sent to WWL-TV depict a van engulfed in flames on the roadside. The Louisiana State Police, responsible for handling incidents on the Crescent City Connection, have not yet disclosed any information regarding the cause of the vehicle fire.
