Local Law Firms Come Together and Establish Endowed Scholarship – Gordon McKernan

Representatives from three local law firms established a $1,000 endowed scholarship at the Southern University Law Center. The Brady, Baudin, McKernan, and Pendley Endowed Scholarship will be earmarked for students in their 2nd or 3rd year of law school interested in careers in civil rights and public interest law.

Back in 2007, representatives from three local law firms wanting to give back to their community, established a $1,000 endowed scholarship at the Southern University Law Center to be given out annually.

The representatives and their law firms are Stan P. Baudin, ’94, and Patrick W. Pendley of Pendley, Baudin & Coffin, LLP; Gordon J. McKernan of the Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys, and Scott E. Brady, ’97, of the Bohrer Law Firm, LLC. Baudin and Brady graduated as the top students in their respective classes at the Law Center.

The Southern University Law Center will have a formal ceremony to award the scholarship to four lucky recipients, on February 20, at 12:00 noon at the Awards Day Program in the Southern Law Center atrium.

Mr. McKernan:

I am very thrilled to be writing to you to express my sincerest gratitude and heartfelt thanks for selecting me for the McKernan Scholarship of the Brad, Baudin, McKernan and Pendley Civil Rights Law and Public Service Endowed Scholarship.

At the conclusion of my phone call with Mr. Brady, I became overwhelmed with tears.  I proceeded to call my mother, and she and I were both overcome with joy about this wonderful blessing.  I want you to understand that this scholarship was not just given to me.  This scholarship was given to all those that I mentor, that believe so much in me, and I in them.  I am excited about one day being able to follow in the footsteps of someone as influential as yourself, to one day be able to do the same for some deserving individual.

Thank you for helping me tell my story that anything is possible, and that if I can do it, they can too!

Sincerely,

Brittany C. Bryant
