Traffic Issues on I-49 in Lafayette Due to Flipped 18-Wheeler

traffic issues from flipped 18-wheeler in Lafayette

Drivers in Lafayette experienced slowdowns on I-49 Southbound last Thursday afternoon due to a major crash involving three vehicles: a tractor-trailer, an SUV, and a truck. According to reporting by Hot 107.9, the crash happened around 4:30 pm near Pont Des Mouton Road outside of Lafayette. All of the vehicles were significantly damaged, but luckily no one seemed to be killed.

However, the 18-wheeler overturned in the crash, ejecting its driver, who nonetheless sustained only moderate injuries as they were taken to a nearby hospital by emergency responders. Their condition is reported as stable.

All lanes of I-49 South had reopened within an hour of the crash, but the frontage road remained closed until the 18-wheeler could safely be removed from the area.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of staying alert and driving defensively. While authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident, it’s possible that one or more of the drivers involved were driving distractedly, drowsily, or aggressively, causing the crash.

The team here at Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys are thankful that nothing worse happened during this crash and urge all Louisianans to stay safe on the highways and byways of our state.
