Meet Dr. Cecelia Gillam, Our New Orleans Teacher of the Month

At Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys, we love any chance to spotlight the people who go the extra mile for our community. This month, we’re proud to name Dr. Cecelia Gillam of Benjamin Franklin High School as our New Orleans Teacher of the Month.

Dr. Gillam is the kind of teacher every student deserves. She’s passionate about science and even more passionate about helping her students believe in themselves, especially when it comes to STEM. She’s known for staying late, thinking outside the box, and making science feel like an adventure. It’s no wonder she’s often compared to Miss Frizzle from The Magic School Bus!

Dr. Gillam’s impact is perhaps best captured in the words of her daughter, who nominated her for this award:

“My mom deserves to win the Gordon McKernan’s New Orleans Teacher of the Month award for a plethora of reasons. First, my mom goes above and beyond for her students. She invests in their interests and encourages them to become advocates for STEM… My mom is an extremely hard-working dedicated educator that loves science and facilitating intellectual growth in her students… To know her is to love her.”
