Cases We Handle in Monroe
Home »
If you were hurt in Monroe or Northeast Louisiana, you may be dealing with medical bills, missed work, vehicle repairs, and questions about what to do next. Our Monroe personal injury lawyers are here to help you understand your options and move forward.
We handle car accident claims involving roads throughout the Monroe area, including I-20, US-165, Louisville Avenue, and other busy local routes. We also represent people injured in commercial truck crashes, 18-wheeler accidents, and motorcycle wrecks.
When a serious crash happens, we look at the evidence that may help explain what went wrong. Depending on the case, that may include photographs, witness statements, vehicle data, driver records, maintenance documents, and insurance information.
We also help people hurt on the job with workers' compensation claims and serious industrial and plant accidents.
If your work takes you offshore or onto navigable waters, our offshore and maritime injury lawyers can review your accident and explain whether Louisiana law, the Jones Act, or another federal maritime law may apply.

Courts Serving Monroe and Nearby Communities
If your case requires a lawsuit, where it may be filed depends on where the accident occurred, where the parties are located, the amount in dispute, and Louisiana's jurisdiction and venue rules.
The Fourth Judicial District Court serves Ouachita and Morehouse Parishes. For cases connected to Ouachita Parish, the courthouse is located at 300 St. John Street in Monroe. The court also serves Morehouse Parish through its courthouse in Bastrop.
Certain civil matters may also fall within Monroe City Court or West Monroe City Court, depending on where the dispute arose and the amount involved.
You do not need to figure out which court applies before contacting us. If your claim requires litigation, we can review the circumstances and determine where the case may properly be filed.
What to Do After an Accident in Monroe
Your health comes first. Get medical attention when you need it and contact law enforcement when Louisiana law requires a crash to be reported.
If you can safely do so:
- Take photos or video of the vehicles, damage, roadway, traffic signals, and visible injuries.
- Exchange contact and insurance information.
- Get names and contact information from witnesses.
- Keep your medical records, bills, repair documents, and proof of missed work.
- Save letters, emails, texts, and other communications from insurance companies.
- Be careful about signing releases or settlement agreements before you understand how they could affect your claim.
Louisiana law generally requires immediate notice to the appropriate law-enforcement agency when a motor vehicle crash causes an injury, death, or more than $500 in property damage.
If you were hurt while working, notify your employer as soon as possible. Louisiana workers' compensation law generally requires notice within 30 days of the injury, although exceptions may apply.
If your family lost a loved one because of an accident, different legal rights and deadlines may apply. Our Monroe wrongful death attorneys can review what happened and explain the options available to eligible family members.
When Can a Monroe Injury Lawyer Help?
You may want to talk with us if your injuries are serious, the other side disputes who caused the accident, several people or companies may be responsible, or an insurance company disputes your claim.
We can review the evidence, identify potentially responsible parties, examine available insurance coverage, communicate with insurers, and explain what types of compensation may be available based on your circumstances.
Some cases can involve additional questions. A commercial truck crash may involve the driver, trucking company, vehicle owner, maintenance provider, or multiple insurers. A workplace or industrial accident may involve an employer, contractor, property owner, or another business.
You do not have to determine those issues yourself before calling us. Our job is to investigate the facts and help you understand what options may apply.

How Long Do I Have to File an Injury Claim in Louisiana?
Louisiana places deadlines on injury claims, and waiting too long can affect your rights.
Louisiana Civil Code article 3493.1 generally provides a two-year prescriptive period for delictual actions beginning on the day the injury or damage is sustained. The provision became effective July 1, 2024.
Claims arising before that date and certain other types of cases can follow different deadlines. The right deadline depends on the type of claim and when it arose, so you should not assume that every injury case has two years.
If you are unsure how much time you have, we can review the circumstances with you.
What If I Was Partly at Fault?
You may still have questions about your rights even if you believe you contributed to an accident.
Under Louisiana Civil Code article 2323, for claims governed by the law effective January 1, 2026, an injured person whose negligence is 51% or greater generally cannot recover damages. If the injured person's share of negligence is below 51%, recoverable damages are generally reduced according to that percentage.
Other rules and exceptions to Louisiana’s modified comparative law can apply. That is why we look at the available evidence rather than relying only on what someone said at the scene or what an insurance company initially claims.
