June consistently ranks among the top months for road accidents. In 2023, it emerged as the second highest month for injury crashes, following a disturbing trend observed in previous years. In both 2021 and 2022, June was the third highest month for injury crashes.

Orleans and Lafayette parishes were particularly impacted in June 2023, experiencing the highest number of fatal crashes. Orleans Parish recorded eight fatal crashes, while Lafayette Parish had seven, highlighting the severe challenges faced by these urban areas.

Fatalities in June 2023

June 2023 saw a total of 65 fatal crashes across the state, resulting in the tragic loss of 73 lives. Data indicates that 45.2% of drivers involved in these fatal crashes had alcohol in their systems, underscoring the urgent need for responsible driving practices. The period around Father’s Day saw a significant number of fatalities, with 12 deaths recorded statewide.
