Gordon McKernan and Keyala Cottrell to Host Second Annual New Orleans Backpack Giveaway

Preparing for a new school year can be a challenge for many families. To help local students start the year with confidence, Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys and New Orleans business owner and community partner Keyala Cottrell are hosting their second annual New Orleans back-to-school giveaway event.

The event will provide 432 backpacks filled with school supply kits to students in the New Orleans area ahead of the upcoming school year.

Second Annual New Orleans Backpack Giveaway Event

The giveaway will take place on Saturday, July 25, from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Treme Recreation Community Center, located at 900 N. Villere St. in New Orleans.

Families can receive backpacks and school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Students must attend with a parent or guardian to receive a backpack.

The free community event will also include activities for families, including: free food, face painting, a phot booth, gift card giveaway, and additional family-friendly activities.

Supporting New Orleans Families

This year marks the second consecutive year Gordon McKernan and Keyala Cottrell have teamed up to support New Orleans students and families. Councilman Freddie King III of District C helped secure the venue for the event for the second year in a row.

McKernan and Cottrell will co-host the event with LaTangela Fay, assistant program director and on-air personality for Cumulus Baton Rouge. Special guest Marlon “Big Fav” Favorite will also attend.

“Every child deserves to start the school year with the tools they need to succeed,” McKernan said. “We’re proud to once again partner with Keyala and other local leaders to support New Orleans families.”

Building a Stronger New Orleans Community Together

Since partnering together, Gordon McKernan and Keyala Cottrell have supported New Orleans families, students, and local businesses through several community initiatives. Their partnership has included annual back-to-school backpack giveaways, McKernan’s annual Gordon Gives Bike Giveaway, and “In the Neighborhood with G,” a community initiative that highlights New Orleans small businesses and the people who help make the city unique.

McKernan and Cottrell continue to celebrate the New Orleans community while creating opportunities to give back, connect with local families and support the people and businesses that make the city special.
