18-wheeler accident on I-12 results in the death of a child

A multi-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler stopped traffic and took the life of a young child early on Thursday morning. Police first reported the crash around 9 am, stating that the tractor-trailer had jackknifed on eastbound I-12 near Albany, causing multiple collisions with other vehicles.

Thursday evening, authorities released more information, disclosing that the driver of the truck had been taken into custody for reckless operation of a motor vehicle and negligent homicide, though he is not suspected of impairment at this time. These new details reveal the semi truck initially failed to stop, colliding with the passenger vehicle occupied by the 18-month old child that was killed and two other occupants who were airlifted to hospitals in Baton Rouge with moderate injuries.

Accidents with 18-wheelers like this one are devastating, and far too often result in the wrongful deaths of those in smaller vehicles.
