18-Wheeler Overturned on I-12 Near Hammond, Causing Delays
On April 11, 2023, near Hammond, an 18-wheeler overturned on an exit ramp roundabout on Interstate 12. Cleanup took several hours at the site, on the northern end of U.S. Highway 51, during which time the southbound traffic on that highway was detoured on I-12 to the I-55 interchange to New Orleans. At the time of writing, it is unknown if anyone was injured.
While we don’t know what caused the truck to overturn, Louisiana truck accidents can be caused by a number of factors, including
- Distracted driving
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol
- Drowsy driving
- Aggressive driving
- and others
Whenever driving on a Louisiana highway, be careful around 18-wheelers. Because of their greater size and mass, they take much longer to stop and maneuver than passenger vehicles—which makes them more dangerous than passenger cars on the highway.
