Texting vs. Drunk Driving ~ Concerned Parent’s Perspective

Recent reports are coming out that texting and driving is now more dangerous than drinking and driving among teenagers. In 2013, 3,000 teens died while texting, as opposed to 2,700 fatalities from those that were intoxicated. As a parent of four, and two that are already driving, I worry about those that are drinking and driving while my children are on the roads, but the fact that texting should be a bigger concern is what really worries me. Is a life worth the momentary distraction that could wait until you are in a safe place?  What do we have to do to get people to stop texting and driving? What do we have to do to make them more aware, before it’s too late? In 2011 alone there were over one million auto accidents that involved cell phones as a cause. And textinganddrivingsafety.com reported that an accident is 23x more likely if a person is texting while driving! If that’s true then it’s clear we have no choice but to put the phones up. Studies and stats published in journal pediatrics and from textinganddrivingsafety.com.
