For 12 years, The 3M Company provided earplugs to the United States Military to protect soldiers during training and combat. The earplugs were designed to prevent hearing damage due to loud blasts, gunfire, and other potentially harmful noises associated with warfare. The 3M Company allegedly knew, but failed to alert the United States Government that the earplugs may have resulted in complete or partial hearing loss to members of the U.S. Military.

How Did the 3M Earplugs Cause Harm?
Thousands of military members in Afghanistan and Iraq used 3M’s Dual-Ended Combat Arms Earplugs to protect them from hearing loss while serving during the years 2003 to 2015. The earplugs, that were intended to block out the noises from explosions, while still allowing the soldiers to communicate with one another, failed to perform correctly and may have caused partial or full hearing loss.
Allegedly, the earplugs have a design flaw due to their symmetrical composition. Fitting instructions provided to the soldiers allowed for the earplugs to loosen and enable sound to enter the ear and cause irreversible damage. Veterans and military personnel may experience ringing in their ears or hearing loss as a result of this product defect.

Who May Have Been Affected?
