Cases We Handle in Alexandria
Home »
Alexandria sits at the center of Louisiana, where I-49, US-71, US-167, and LA-28 connect drivers, workers, and commercial traffic with communities throughout Rapides Parish and Central Louisiana.
If an accident has left you dealing with medical care, missed work, vehicle repairs, or questions about insurance, our Alexandria personal injury lawyers can help you understand what legal options may be available.
We handle car accident claims involving roads such as MacArthur Drive and I-49, along with commercial truck crashes, 18-wheeler accidents, and motorcycle wrecks. Big or small, I handle them all™.
Depending on the circumstances, evidence may include photos or video, witness information, vehicle data, driver records, maintenance documents, medical records, and available insurance coverage.
Our attorneys also help people injured while working. That can include workers' compensation claims, serious industrial accident cases, and injuries involving fires or explosions.
For Central Louisiana residents whose jobs take them offshore, aboard vessels, or onto navigable waters, our offshore and maritime injury lawyers can review what happened and explain whether Louisiana law, the Jones Act, or another federal maritime law may apply.

Courts Serving Alexandria and Central Louisiana
Where an injury lawsuit may be filed depends on where the accident happened, where the parties are located, the nature of the claim, and Louisiana's jurisdiction and venue rules.
Alexandria is located in Rapides Parish, which is served by the 9th Judicial District Court. The court is located at 701 Murray Street in Alexandria.
Alexandria City Court, located at 515 Washington Street, also handles certain civil matters within Wards 1, 2, and 8 of Rapides Parish. The City of Alexandria currently states that its civil jurisdiction generally extends to qualifying disputes where the amount in controversy does not exceed $50,000.
Some cases involving federal jurisdiction may be heard in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Alexandria Division, located at 515 Murray Street, Suite 105. The Alexandria Division serves Rapides Parish as well as Avoyelles, Catahoula, Concordia, Grant, LaSalle, Natchitoches, and Winn Parishes.
For clients in Natchitoches Parish, qualifying matters may instead fall within the 10th Judicial District Court, which has original jurisdiction over civil and criminal matters in Natchitoches Parish and is located at 200 Church Street in Natchitoches.
Not every injury claim becomes a lawsuit, and you do not need to determine the correct court before contacting us. If litigation becomes necessary, we can evaluate the circumstances and determine where the claim may properly be filed.
What to Do After an Accident in Alexandria
Your health and safety should come first. Get medical attention when necessary and notify law enforcement when Louisiana law requires a crash to be reported.
If you are able to do so safely:
- Take photos or video of the vehicles, roadway, property damage, traffic controls, and visible injuries.
- Exchange contact and insurance information.
- Ask witnesses for their names and contact information.
- Keep medical records, bills, repair information, and documents showing time missed from work.
- Save emails, letters, texts, and other communications from insurance companies.
- Be cautious about signing releases or settlement documents before you understand how they could affect your rights.
Louisiana law requires immediate notice to the appropriate law-enforcement agency when a motor vehicle crash causes an injury, death, or more than $500 in property damage.
If you were hurt on the job, notify your employer promptly. Louisiana workers' compensation law generally requires notice within 30 days after the injury or death, although other provisions and exceptions can affect that requirement. For example, state law extends the notice period in certain circumstances when the employer fails to post the required workplace notice.
If your family lost a loved one because of an accident, different legal rights and deadlines may apply. Our Alexandria wrongful death attorneys can review what happened with eligible family members.
When Can an Alexandria Injury Lawyer Help?
Some claims are relatively straightforward. Others quickly become difficult because injuries are serious, treatment continues for months, fault is disputed, several companies may be involved, or an insurer questions coverage or damages.
We can review the evidence, investigate what happened, identify potentially responsible parties, examine available insurance coverage, communicate with insurers, and explain the legal options that may apply to your circumstances.
A commercial truck crash, for example, may involve the driver, motor carrier, vehicle owner, maintenance provider, or multiple insurance policies. A workplace accident may involve workers' compensation benefits as well as a separate claim against another legally responsible person or company in some situations.
You do not have to identify every possible claim or responsible party before talking with us.

How Long Do I Have to File an Injury Claim in Louisiana?
Louisiana imposes time limits on personal injury claims.
Civil Code article 3493.1 generally provides a two-year prescriptive period for delictual actions, beginning on the day the injury or damage is sustained. The law took effect July 1, 2024.
Claims arising before that date and certain other types of claims may follow different rules or deadlines. That means you should not assume that every Louisiana injury claim gives you two years.
If you are unsure which deadline applies, we can review the timing and type of your claim with you.
What If I Was Partly at Fault?
An accident can involve mistakes by more than one person.
For claims governed by Louisiana Civil Code article 2323 as amended effective January 1, 2026, a person whose negligence is 51% or greater generally cannot recover damages. If the person's percentage of negligence is below 51%, recoverable damages are generally reduced according to that percentage.
Other rules and exceptions to Louisiana’s modified comparative law may affect individual cases, so fault should be evaluated using the evidence rather than relying only on what another driver or insurance company says happened.
